Biography
Geraldine Butler is Professor of Genetics in the School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science and the Conway Institute, University College Dublin, Ireland. Her lab is interested in characterizing virulence of pathogenic Candida species, and more broadly in using comparative genomics to study evolution of other fungi. She has carried out large-scale population genomics studies of Candida parapsilosis, Candida orthopsilosis and Candida tropicalis, leading to the identification of novel hybrid species. Her group also identified the first European isolates of Saccharomyces eubayanus, one of the parents of lager yeast. Her current research focusses on genotype/phenotype correlations in C. parapsilosis, particularly in relation to drug resistance.
